Venezia 78 Lineup Unveiled

by KM, Movie Lightbox

The lineup of films selected for the 78th Venice International Film Festival has been announced. New films from notable directors Pedro Almodóvar, Jane Campion, Paolo Sorrentino and Pablo Larraín will have their debuts on the Lido. 21 films will compete for the Golden Lion, the festival’s top prize. Most of the titles in Competition were European films, with only a few titles coming from Mexico and the Philippines.

The festival will move forward with its in-person film screenings in limited capacity, after the success of staging a physical edition last year right in the midst of pandemic. Almodóvar’s latest film, Madres Paralelas starring Penélope Cruz is set to open the festival. Bong Joon-ho, South Korean award-winning director and screenwriter will be the head of the jury for the Competition section of the festival.
