Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall”, a French thriller and courtroom drama took home the prestigious Palme d’or, the top prize of the Cannes Film Festival. Triet is only the third woman to win the Palme d’Or (after Jane Campion for “The Piano” and “Titane” filmmaker Julia Ducournau. The 75th edition of the festival concluded after 11 exceptional days of cinematic showcase. Known for its prestigious nature and celebration of the art of filmmaking, this year’s official selection has a diverse range of films competing for recognition and accolades.
21 films were presented in competition this year. The jury led by Swedish director Ruben Östlund had the challenging task of selecting the winners in various categories.
Taking home the prestigious Palme d'Or, the highest honor at the festival, was "Anatomie d'une Chute" (Anatomy of a Fall), directed by Justine Triet. Triet's thought-provoking film captivated audiences and the jury with its narrative centered on Sandra, her French husband Samuel and their visually impaired son Daniel. When Samuel is found dead outside the house, an investigation for death in suspicious circumstances is launched. A year later Daniel attends his mother’s trial in a veritable dissection of his parents’ relationship. The Grand Prix, the second-highest accolade, was awarded to Jonathan Glazer for "The Zone of Interest." A masterful and bracing film about a family striving to build a dream life in a house and garden next to a camp. The Best Director award went to Tran Anh Hùng for "La Passion de Dodin Bouffant" (The Pot-au-Feu). Hùng's skillful direction brought to life a captivating story on gastronomy and romance. Aki Kaurismäki's "Kuolleet Lehdet" (Fallen Leaves) was honored with the Jury Prize. Kaurismäki's film touched hearts and left an impression with a story of two lonely people (Alma Pöysti and Jussi Vatanen) who meet each other by chance in the Helsinki and try to find the first, only, and ultimate love of their lives.
