Venice 2022: All The Beauty and the Bloodshed wins Golden Lion

by KM, Movie Lightbox

“All The Beauty and the Bloodshed”, a documentary film chronicling the life and work of famed artist Nan Goldin, her activisms and protests against the Sackler Family and their company took home the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 79th Venice International Film Festival.

Director Laura Poitras was given the highest award in Competition by the jury presided by Julianne Moore. This is also the third year in a row that the Golden Lion Award went to a female filmmaker, with Chloe Zhao (Nomadland, 2020) and Audrey Diwan (Happening, 2021) who have won in previous years. The last documentary film to receive the coveted prize was back in 2013 with Gianfranco Rosi’s Sacro GRA.
